Modern Tech Skills Bootcamp

Truth: if you don’t embrace technology you’re being left behind. OK, I don’t know if that’s true, but I’m running with it. I think it’s true.

The idea: a skills enhancement bootcamp for people who want to revamp their résumés or simply learn the skills of the present and future.

I think this could be done in various ways. A weekend bootcamp. A weeklong bootcamp. A nightly bootcamp (say 18:00 – 21:00 every night for 2 weeks).

Skills learned:

  • Touch typing.
  • Web hosting related stuff like registering a domain and FTP.
  • WordPress installation / tweaking.
  • Basic HTML / CSS.
  • Basic design with GIMP or Photoshop.

More advanced could teach:

  • PHP
  • MySQL
  • Javascript / jQuery

There are a lot of important tech things to learn so this is just a start, but I think it could be useful. Also, the price tag for something like this would be pretty high. I would say at least $1,000 if it’s a weeklong bootcamp.

Feel free to brainstorm this more in the comments.

I think this is a great idea! I have thought many times how I think it would be fun to teach a class that shows how to set up a website from soup to nuts. Could show the free options as well as paid options too. Think of all the value you could pack into 5 hours!

Great idea Karol

Yes, there are tons of courses about how to set up a website. But I’m talking about a very specific program that covers that and more with the goal of helping people compete amongst the ever more competitive marketplace.

Hi Karol,
it seems you are aiming for advanced users so this may be irelevant to you –
we have friendly event in our local library called Digital Bazaar

It is all about sharing skills with your neighbours. If you want to learn about how to set up your blog or something basic – you can pop-in. If you want something more advanced – just drop an email and I am sure that someone will come to help you :)
