Better Health Insurance

I’d like my health insurance company to require (and pay for) physicals / blood tests / prevention methods (like exercise). I’d also like them to require everybody employed (especially the CEO) to go through physicals / blood tests / prevention methods.

This would cost more in the short term, but save money in the long term. Insurance companies play the long term game anyway so why do they think short term?

I’m currently paying $167/month for health insurance (oh wait, they just sent me a letter today, $180/month beginning March 1). This isn’t bad, but it’s high deductible and mostly useless. I like this particular insurance because it’s not based on location. It works everywhere in the world and I travel a lot. But it could be a lot better.

I’m all for capitalism and profits (anybody who says otherwise is a liar), but maybe this utopian health insurance company is also customer focused. If you’re accepted into the system and you pass your initial physicals & blood tests, and are consistent with the prevention methods then you can never be kicked off the plan (even if you develop a serious illness) and your premium never rises by more than ~3% (or whatever is consistent with inflation) per year.

In a system like this there wouldn’t need to be a CEO who is strictly profits/shareholder focused. It would just have to be someone smart who wouldn’t fuck things up. They should still be paid millions of dollars, but it should be based on how healthy the company/customers are as opposed to how much profits were made. Profits will come with health anyway.

Somebody like Richard Branson could pull this off. Virgin Health. It will take a wealthy individual with clout and a network to make this happen.

Hi Karol! I really like your new website. I happen to travel a lot (months at a time) like you. My insurance currently kind of sucks. Any advice on what to get?

Thank you,

All insurance companies suck. I use HTH Worldwide. They’re pretty good. But still, they suck like all the others.
